Andrew joined Allan Gray in February 2001 as a fixed interest trader and moved to the research team as an equity analyst in February 2003. He was appointed as fixed interest portfolio manager in June 2006, began managing a portion of client equity and balanced portfolios in February 2008 and was appointed as deputy chief investment officer in May 2015, and chief investment officer in March 2016. Andrew completed his BSc (Eng) and BCom at UCT and is a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Andries joined Analytics in 2015 as Chief Investment Officer. He has an intimate knowledge of the investment services industry, and plays a key role in setting business strategy in Analytics Consulting’s investment businesses. Prior to joining Analytics, he was with Momentum for nearly 17 years, working in various senior roles in both London and South Africa. Andries is also a non-executive director of Ci Collective Investments (RF) and holds a B.Sc. (Act Sci) degree from the University of Johannesburg.
Prior to joining Laurium Capital in September 2017 as a co-portfolio manager and retail analyst, Brian was the lead international client services fund manager at Coronation Asset Management. He spent 5 years as the managing director of the Central European, Middle East and Africa (CEMEA) equity sales desk for Deutsche Bank in London, a position he took after 8 years in equity sales at Deutsche Securities in Johannesburg.
Charlotte is a member of the BlackRock Multi Asset Strategies group, which is responsible for developing, assembling and managing investment solutions involving multiple strategies and asset classes. Within BlackRock Multi Asset Strategies group, as a product strategist, she serves as a link between the investment team and account managers. Charlotte earned a BSc degree, with honours, in Politics and Economics from the University of Bath.
Clyde is a portfolio manager with a focus on multi-asset absolute return and low volatility real return equity investing. His portfolio manager duties include the flagship Opportunity strategy that he has run since 2003 and the equity oriented Global Franchise and Global Quality Equity Income strategies. Clyde was awarded the Certificates in Actuarial Techniques in 1995, and Finance and Investments in 1997 by the Institute of Actuaries in London. Clyde graduated from the University of Cape Town with a BSc in Statistics and Actuarial Science, and is a CFA Charterholder.
Cy is a co-founder of 36ONE Asset Management and heads the investment team. Before 36ONE, he was a senior portfolio manager at Investec Securities, where he was head of the Opportunities Mandate. Prior to that, Cy was a Director at HSBC, where he jointly managed the Nedbank Entrepreneur Fund. Cy completed his accounting articles at Kessel Feinstein (later acquired by Grant Thornton).
Duncan joined Allan Gray in 2001 and has been managing a portion of client equity and balanced portfolios since January 2005, when he was appointed as a portfolio manager. He is a director of Allan Gray Group Proprietary Limited. Duncan completed his Honours in Business Science and postgraduate diploma in accounting at UCT. He holds both the CFA and CMT charters.
Eben joined ABAM in January 2016 as head of fixed income. Before joining ABAM, he was responsible for managing approximately R10bn absolute return assets with CPI+3/4/5/6 mandates at STANLIB for a period of 7 years. Eben has held a number of senior positions in the financial markets over the past 26 years, including treasurer at Nedcor Investment Bank, portfolio manager at Genbel Investments and head of market risk at Absa Capital. He holds a Ph.D. in Applied Mathematics and does active research in his spare time.
Gareth is the managing director of CoreShares – a leading South African passive investment management business and has led the business from inception. CoreShares manages a number of index funds and ETFs with a particular focus on Smart Beta. Gareth is a respected thought leader in the area of index investing (in particular) and participates regularly in public forums – conferences, radio and television. Gareth has an MBA from Wits Business School and has over 15 years’ financial services experience across structured finance, investment management and banking.
Gavin was a founder of Kagiso Asset Management in 2001 and has headed up the investment team since inception. He manages equity and balanced portfolios. He also serves as executive director. Gavin was previously an investment analyst with Coronation Fund Managers. He has 20 years of investment experience and holds a BBusSc degree from the University of Cape Town, he qualified as an Actuary (FFA) and is a CFA charter holder.
Greg joined Merrill Lynch Investment Managers (now BlackRock) in London in 1997 where he was a portfolio manager in the European Equity team. On his return to SA in 2006, Greg joined Sanlam Investment Management, where he worked on the Best Ideas Fund product until 2009. Greg joined PSG in 2010 and serves as PSG Asset Management’s chief investment officer. Greg currently comanages the PSG Global Equity Sub-Fund, PSG Equity Fund and PSG Balanced Fund. He holds a BCom degree and is a CA (SA) and CFA Charterholder.
Herman joined STANLIB in 1995 as a research analyst. Since then he has held the positions of head of research, portfolio manager, head of Balanced Funds and he is currently the head of Equities and a member of STANLIB’s executive committee. His service with STANLIB was intermitted by two years in a resource focussed private equity company as a deal originator. Herman holds a BEng (mining) degree and an MBL.
Ian joined Fundhouse in 2013 and is a Director based in South Africa. Ian was previously the Chief Operating Officer of a boutique asset manager in South Africa. He also has international experience, having spent five years in Australia and 2 years in the United Kingdom. He started in the investment industry in 2001 and is a qualified actuary.
Iain joined RMB Asset Management in 1993 as a director and portfolio manager. He then joined Truffle Asset Management in May 2010. Iain is the portfolio manager of the MET Truffle Balanced Fund and the Nedgroup Investments Managed Fund.
James joined Absa Asset Management (ABAM) in December 2013 as portfolio manager for fixed income products, specialising in duration investment. James currently manages a number of index linked and inflation linked mandates and unit trusts. James has 26 years of experience in financial market investing. He has worked within local and international investment bank treasuries and at a parastatal treasury. He holds a BCom degree (Economics); a Unisa Certificate in Treasury Management and is a FAIS representative.
Jannie joined Nedgroup Investments in 2008 as an investment analyst in the Best of Breed Team. During his time as an analyst he started developing the Core Range of low cost multi-asset portfolios which were launched in September 2009. He currently drives the strategic development of the Core Range and is responsible for their “cost efficient” investment philosophy and process. He is actively involved in research on current topics in asset management and investment industry reforms.
Joanne is a Director of MitonOptimal South Africa and Head of Investment Strategy for both local and offshore funds. Joanne completed her articles at Moores Rowland before joining The Appleton Group in 1997 as a fund manager and analyst. She joined MitonOptimal in 2003 where she has helped oversee the growth of the group. Joanne is a Chartered Accountant and holds the Chartered Financial Analyst® (CFA®) designation.
John retired as MD of the retail business at Prudential Investment Managers in March 2015 after a period of 13 years. He remains a non-executive director of the business and is also a nonexecutive director of Amity Wealth. He has spent 30 years in the financial services industry in various roles, including being part of the team that established the linked product industry in the early 1990’s. John is currently the Chairman of the newly formed South African Independent Financial Advisers Association (SAIFAA).
With 16 years’ experience in investment management, Johny joined Prudential in 2013 as a portfolio manager and equity analyst, focusing on Insurance and Specialist Financial Services companies, as well as selected industrial counters. He is also a member of the Equity Voting Committee. His qualifications include a BEconSc (Actuarial Science) and he is a Fellow of the Faculty of Actuaries.
Justin joined Old Mutual Global Investors in 2014 and is a strategist in the global equity team. He joined from UBS Global Asset Management. Justin was formerly based in Asia as an investment advisor to the then CIO of Shinsei Bank, Tokyo, focusing on emerging market investment opportunities throughout Asia and EMEA. Justin began his career as a barrister, practising in London. He holds an LLB (hons) from the University of Durham and a BA (hons) from the Queen’s University of Belfast.
Kevin joined then-Liberty Asset Management as an economics analyst in 2001. As chief economist, he is currently responsible for domestic and global economic research and forecasts within STANLIB as well as providing input into the Asset Allocation processes, Fixed Income, Property and various Equity Franchises. Kevin has an Honours degree in Economics from Wits University, specialising in international and public sector finance. He is a widely sought-after media commentator, and has had a number of journal articles published, internationally as well as locally. He is a past winner of the Old Mutual Applied Mathematics competition.
Kevin Murphy is a co-head of the Global Value Team at Schroders, and a founding member in 2013 of this team of value investors who manage UK, European and global portfolios. He is co-manager of the Schroder ISF Global Recovery fund. He joined Schroders in 2000 and is based in London. Kevin is a CFA Charterholder and holds a BSc (Economics) degree from Manchester University.
Kurt joined Absa Asset Management as head: Balanced Funds in August 2015. He has 20 years of investment and asset management experience. Prior to joining ABSA, Kurt spent 8 years co-managing multi-asset funds at Cadiz Asset Management. He has also held senior analytical and portfolio management positions at several respected investment management companies including Sanlam Investment Management, BOE Asset Management and Old Mutual Asset Management. Kurt holds BBusSc and BCom degrees and is a CFA.
Marius joined STANLIB in September 2013 as co-head of Absolute Return Strategies. Marius took over as head of STANLIB Absolute Return Strategies in September of 2015. He joined STANLIB from Sarala Capital in Cape Town, where he was a Managing Partner responsible for providing strategic direction for the firm. Marius holds a BCom degree (Stellenbosch University) and an MSc in Global Finance from Stern Business School at New York University and the Hong Kong University of Science and Technology.
Mark began his career as a transport sector investment analyst with stockbrokers Kitcat and Aitken, before moving to WI Carr and then Smith New Court plc. In 1997, he joined Collins Stewart plc and helped develop the group leading up to its MBO and IPO in 2000. Since 2001, Mark has pursued a career in fund management helping to found Fundsmith in 2010. Mark is also a Non-Executive Director of Dart Group PLC, vice-chairman of the endowment investment committee of King’s College University and a governor of Bryanston School in Dorset, UK.
Murray is responsible for global distribution and marketing. He joined the Ashburton business as a result of the acquisition of Atlantic Asset Management by Ashburton Investment Holdings. Previously, he was the Co-Founder and Managing Director of Atlantic. Prior to Atlantic, he held a number of senior distribution and marketing positions at Cadiz African Harvest, Old Mutual Asset Managers as well as RMB Asset Management. He holds a BCom in Financial Management from UNISA, a Diploma in Marketing from IMM and is a Certified Financial Planner (CFPTM).
Murray is the co-founder of Laurium Capital, founded in 2008. Previously Murray was CEO of Deutsche Bank South Africa, having worked for them for 12 years. Prior to his role as CEO, Murray held various positions at Deutsche Bank including: Head of Global Markets (Debt and Equity) and Head of Research. Before joining Deutsche Bank, Murray was a partner, strategist and industrial analyst with Ivor Jones Roy and Co Inc.
Navin Lala joined Ashburton Investments as head of institutional distribution in March 2015 and moved to the Fund Management team in 2017, where his focus is on managing the business and distribution. He started his career at UAL Merchant Bank and over 20 years, has gained a wealth of experience in stock broking, multi management, portfolio management and research. He holds an MBA from the University of the Witwatersrand.
Neil is a portfolio manager and head of global developed markets research at Coronation Fund Managers. He joined Coronation in May 2012 and has 10 years’ investment experience. He initially worked as a management consultant at Bain & Co. before qualifying as an actuary. Prior to joining Coronation he worked as an equity analyst in London from 2007. Neil holds a BEconSc. degree and FFA diploma.
Neville joined Coronation in 2000. He has 20 years’ investment experience and is a senior member of the investment team. Neville currently manages institutional portfolios within Coronation’s aggressive equity portfolio range and is co-manager of the Coronation Top 20 and Market Plus unit trust funds. Neville is a qualified CA (SA) and a CFA charter holder.
Omri joined Abax Investments in 2007 as a director and portfolio manager. Prior to joining Abax Investments he was the chief investment officer of Sanlam Investment Management. Omri is the portfolio manager of the Nedgroup Investments Opportunity and Rainmaker Fund.
Paul joined PSG in 2004. He is the fund manager of the PSG Balanced and PSG Stable funds. He is also the co- fund manager of the PSG Flexible and PSG Diversified Income funds. He holds a BCom (Hons) degree from the University of Stellenbosch and is a CFA Charterholder.
Peter is head of distribution and a member of the management committee of Coronation’s personal investments business. His key responsibility is to ensure exceptional client service through the dissemination of relevant information to the investment advice community. Peter joined Coronation in 2011. BCom (Honours) Investment Management, CFP.
Peter established Old Mutual Equities in 2008 and has managed the Old Mutual Investors’ Fund since 2009. He also jointly manages various domestic institutional funds. He has worked in asset management for 30 years and holds BA Economics and BCom (Hons) degrees.
Pieter joined Prudential Investment Managers as head of retail and managing director of Prudential Unit Trusts in May 2015. He has over 19 years of experience in the financial services industry. Prior to Prudential, he had been employed at Old Mutual since 1998 in a variety of managerial roles spanning actuarial work, employee benefits and product development. In 2008 he became managing director of Old Mutual Unit Trusts, and since 2011 was Deputy CEO of Old Mutual Wealth. Pieter holds a BCom (Mathematics) degree from Stellenbosch University, is a qualified actuary (Fellow of the Institute of Actuaries and the Actuarial Society of South Africa) and completed a General Management Program at Harvard Business School in 2010.
Pieter is head of personal investments at Coronation Fund Managers. His key responsibility is to ensure exceptional client service through a combination of appropriate product, relevant market information and good client outcomes. CA (SA), CFP, CFA.
Quinton is head of SA Equity research and co-manages Coronation’s Core Equity Strategy. He also has research responsibilities for a number of retail, pharmaceutical and construction stocks. Quinton joined Coronation in 2005 and has 13 years’ investment experience. He holds BBusSc and BCom (Hons) degrees, is a qualified CA (SA) and a CFA charter holder.
Rob is a founding member and the chief investment officer of Rezco Asset Management. Rob worked at Momentum Asset Management first as an analyst and then as a portfolio manager. He then arranged and ran a private equity buyout of an agro-processing business that grew revenue at 25% pa for 15 years. In 1989 Rob became a partner in Rezco Asset Management with Wally Gray. Rob and Wally have been co-managers of the firm’s unit trust offering since 1994 achieving best in class performance over that time. Rob graduated from the University of Cape Town in 1986, and passed the Public Accountants and Auditors Board Exam in 1987.
Robin joined Nedgroup Investments in 2016 as head of investments, with responsibility for the ‘Best of Breed’ range of investment funds. Prior to joining Nedgroup Investments, Robin held the position of head of portfolio management for Morningstar’s Investment Management group for the Europe, Middle East and Africa region. Robin has been working in the investment industry since 1997 and has more than 16 years’ experience as an investment consultant and portfolio manager for Fund of Fund multi-asset strategies.
Rory is the managing director of Fundhouse in the UK. He started his investment career in 1997 in London, working mostly for Barclays Global Investors up until 2001, when he joined Investec Asset Management. He then helped build a global asset management business (RECM) from 2003-2007, where he was CEO, before being a co-founder of Fundhouse in 2007, in South Africa. He launched Fundhouse in the UK in 2010 and they provide fund research, portfolio construction and asset allocation services to global institutions and advisers.
Shaun joined Allan Gray in 2010 and is a manager in the product development team. He has a Bachelor of Business Science in Actuarial Science from UCT.
Shaun is the fund manager of the PSG Flexible Fund and has also managed the PSG Equity Fund since 2002, during which time the fund has won five S&P/Morningstar and Raging Bull awards. He holds a BCom degree from UCT, is a CA (SA) and CFA Charterholder.
Siboniso is the joint boutique head of Global Emerging Markets and is responsible for managing and building the investment boutique. Prior to setting up Global Emerging Markets, he was a portfolio manager and analyst in the ELECTUS boutique, after joining in February 2007. In 2011, he was appointed to head up the financials and property research team and assumed responsibility for bank and other financial analyses excluding insurance. Siboniso has 10 years of work experience in the asset management industry.
Simon joined Orbis in 2008. Based in London, he leads the Europe investment team. He previously worked as a derivatives lawyer at Linklaters. Simon holds a Master of Arts degree (Honours) in Law from the University of Oxford and he is a solicitor and a Chartered Financial Analyst.
Simon joined Rezco in 2015, with previous experience at Deutsche Bank in London, Cogito Capital and Discovery Invest. He has been working in the financial markets for 9 years and has a keen interest in stock picking, especially focusing on business strategy and how industries evolve through changing environments. He holds a B.Bus Science, CFA and CIPM
