I have attended the annual Investment Forum since the inaugural Investment Forum was held at Sun City in 2011 and I think we were only around 280 advisors in attendance over 1 and ½ days and with 6 asset managers present. The forum gives us as financial professionals a forum where financial advisers and portfolio managers can interact and the investment philosophies and decisions of the asset managers could be openly compared to one another in a professional environment.
There is no doubt that over the last 7 years the forum has become by far the largest gathering of asset managers and financial professionals in Africa with over 25 local and international asset managers and more than 1500 financial professionals attending in Cape Town and Gauteng. I find deep value from the forum and it sets me up annually and for the next 5 years on directions to follow with local and international investments. It is invigorating to see the leading asset managers and top investment minds up on stage with several panels and debates with differences, and where the portfolio managers are invited to disagree with each other and are welcome to challenge one another on any issue. We as the audience also get the opportunity to join in with questions and there simply is no place to hide
Some offshore asset managers like BlackRock, Orbis, Threadneedle, Sarasin and Schroders discuss the global impact and local managers like Investec, Nedgroup Investments, STANLIB, Prudential, Rezco Allan Gray Gray, Coronation, Nedgroup Investments, Prudential and PSG discuss long-term stock picking and have valuable insights. There is also an opportunity for the smaller fund managers like PSG, Bridge, Laurium to have a say during breakaway groups.
Add to all of this great networking opportunities, excellent exhibitions, brilliant catering and welcome handouts and CPD hours of note, with by far one of the most efficient and time effective events organised by professionals of note, then I can honestly state that this is a world class forum and not too be missed by any financial professionals who care about their client investments and understand the concept of custodianship. Highly recommended.
I’ve attended every Investment Forum since inception and the standard thereof, value received and content matter has improved each and every year. The quality is comparable to the best anywhere in the world and I would encourage each IFA to make the commitment to attend this year’s Investment Forum.
Over the years I have been a regular attendee at The Investment Forum and I found it an essential industry event to attend to ensure that I remain fully abreast of domestic and international market and fund strategies. It is undoubtedly the fund manager thought-leadership event in SA and well worth the time out of the office. This helps me ensure that I can speak to my clients with a level of authority and conviction in planning their affairs. I highly recommend this event to any financial adviser wanting to gain compelling insights into the financial markets and fund strategies.
I have attended the Investment Forum for the past 6 years. Over this period I have found the panel discussions and other presentations to be topical, well researched and very beneficial. This, together with the ability it gives to network with friends and colleagues from the industry have made in invaluable to me. I now allocate the time in my diary from one year to the next and would not miss it.
