The Investment Forum is South Africa’s premier gathering of investment managers, discretionary fund managers, multi managers and financial advisors/wealth managers. Now, in its 14th year, it continues to focus on thought leadership content spanning the world of investing. There is no “product push” at the conference, therefore allowing delegates to gain insights impacting investment themes across the world.
The world is facing many challenges on all fronts. Wars are raging and are precariously positioned to escalate into other territories. Meanwhile, the world is holding its breath as inflation is harrowingly stubborn and the prospect of relieving interest rates seems a distant prospect. And of course, it is an election year in South Africa and the USA, so the narrative will be ambiguous with all eyes on the prospect of stability and economic growth. A fragile world is an understatement!
Generative artificial intelligence has taken the world by storm and is being hailed as “the most transformative technology any of us will see in our lifetimes”. How it will radically disrupt society is anyone’s guess, but what we do know is that it will be transformable and there will be winners and losers in the industry.
With all of this in mind, natural disasters are becoming more frequent and violent across the globe. Leaders need drastic actions to get to Net Zero as agreed during COP27 and investment managers need to ensure that they “do well and do good” in how they direct asset flows to companies.
